TJ Perkins | Assistant Coach

Coach TJ Perkins enters his 7th year as an Assistant coach on the D1 level. Coach Perkins started his collegiate coaching career as a volunteer assistant under Coach Jackson during the 2017-2018 year. That year he also became an intern Strength and Conditioning Coach. The following year Coach Perkins assumed the role as the baseball Strength & Conditioning coach, as well as Outfield Coach in the Fall of 2018. That year Coach Perkins assisted the Jaguar to the SWAC Western Division and overall, 2019 SWAC tournament, leading to a Starkville regional appearance. Coach Perkins also played a predominate role in the Jaguars SWAC championship in 2021. Since 2019 Coach Perkins has had an All-SWAC first team center fielder (Williams 19’) SWAC All Conference (Armstrong 22’), Second team All-SWAC team right fielder (Spears 22’).

A Houston native, TJ Perkins was recruited by Southern In 2009 where he played under Roger Cador during the 2013 season. The following year Coach Perkins would receive his degree from The Southern University in Humanities. After graduating he would become a pillow of hope in the community by becoming a Mental Health Specialist from 2014-2016. After doing that for some time he became a Mentor at a boarding school by the name of Thrive Academy from 2016-2018. Coach Perkins also became a Personal Trainer and Fitness Director from 2014-2020. Coach Perkins would receive his master’s degree in social science in the Fall of 2020 from The Southern University.
